Behind every bottle is a winemaker story.

Poggio di Sotto

🍇 Giulio Gambelli, the man who knew how to listen to wine: his legacy still lives at Poggio di Sotto. 🌿

Giulio Gambelli, the master of Sangiovese, was renowned for his ability to recognize the perfect moment for harvest and the ideal ripeness of the grapes.

His sensitivity, his extraordinary tasting memory, and his deep respect for time made him a legend.

He collaborated with many Tuscan wineries and with the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, leaving a profound mark on Poggio di Sotto as well — a place I recently had the privilege to return to. 🍷

Speaking with winemaker Leonardo Berti, one can clearly feel how Gambelli’s legacy is still alive:

a philosophy rooted in patience, intuition, and listening to the vineyard.

Here, harvest decisions are not made by numbers…

but by the soul. ✨

In the cellar, winemaking is careful and respectful:

spontaneous fermentations in 70-hectoliter wooden vats,

long macerations lasting 40–50 days, few rackings, and no rush.

The result is a deep, vibrant bouquet full of personality.

The Rosso di Montalcino 2021 shows strength and complexity, with notes of spices, violet, vanilla, and blackberry.

The Brunello di Montalcino speaks with an elegant voice:

aromas of forest floor, tobacco, Mediterranean herbs, and a velvety persistence that truly moves the senses. 🌿

Aging takes place in 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels:

24 months for the Rosso,

42 months for the Brunello.

No filtration — only time, respect, and silence.

From the terrace of the winery, the view embraces the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, Mount Amiata, and the Orcia River:

a landscape that speaks the same language as the wine —

time, patience, and beauty.
