Castello Tricerchi, Between the Middle Ages and Brunello di Montalcino
Castello Tricerchi is one of the most significant historic sites in Montalcino. Located in the Altesino area, the complex dates back to the 13th century, when the Altesi family began the construction of a fortified structure, later completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi family.
The Tricerchi, an ancient noble family from Siena, were part of the so-called Monte dei Nove, the group of families that governed the Republic of Siena from the 12th century onward. The position of Altesino played a strategic role along one of the main pilgrimage and trade routes of the time.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle passed by direct inheritance to the Squarcia family, which still owns both Castello Tricerchi and the winery today.
In 1995, Emanuele Squarcia launched the wine project by planting the first vineyards of Sangiovese Grosso, marking the beginning of the estate’s modern wine production.
Today, Castello Tricerchi is a winery that combines historical heritage with a contemporary vision. In the medieval underground cellars of the castle, thanks to a naturally favorable microclimate for aging, wines are produced in a modern, elegant and immediately approachable style.
From Lul’io to Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino, the estate’s production expresses a clear identity based on drinkability, balance and respect for the territory.
Castello Tricerchi thus stands among the wineries contributing to the renewal of the Montalcino wine scene, while maintaining a strong connection with its history.
