The company Grosjean. Other of the biggest producers if we spoke about the number of produced wines, but not only . Briefly . From 2011 biological winery. The third generation of winegrowers of family. 16 hectares of vineyards between Quart and Saint Christophe,the Cru of company are Tzeriat, Rovettaz, Creton and Touren at city Quart, Tzanté de Bagnare, Merletta and Castello di Pleod in Saint Christophe.
The other beautiful place, from the road which passes between the vineyards is opened the view of mountains from the other side of the valley. Such quiet place nearby the city Aosta!
As usual I like better wine from autochthonous varieties,first of all the line of biological wines, Fumin, Prëmeta, Cornalin, and also naturalised at the Valley d’Aosta variety Petite Arvine.
The first tested wine was Spumante Montmary, extra brut Method Champenoise. Mont Mary, 2185 m a.s.l., the mountain where the most vineyards of company are situated . Cuvée of 50% Pinot Noir , 50% Chardonnay, the big part of vineyards is situated at the level 850 m above sea level, 15 months of ageing “sul lie”. The light pink brilliant colour , mouthfeel very floral and fruity , aroma of blackberry, strawberries, roses. It has a creamy and persistent foam, with many bubbles. Wine is very fresh, sapid, with a pleasant freshness in the mouth, even prickly over the tongue.
Muscat Petit Grain, 2019, Grosjean.
Muscat Petit Grain aka Moscato Bianco. The vinification in stainless steel vats , wine grapes are cultivated at the vineyards located nearby cities Quart and Chambabve. Colour limpid straw-yellow. Sense of smell aromatic, sage, lime tree flours, thyme, lemon . The wine appears fresh, sapid, mineral. Optimal for aperitif.
Chardonnay 2019. Selected yeats from vineyards are used for the wine. The ageing in untoasted barrique , vapor bent during 12 minutes, “ sur lie” , after 12 months in bottle. The colour intense straw yellow. Aroma is intense and floral. The wine apears fresh, equilibrated, fairly struttured.
Petite Arvine Rovettaz 2020. From mine point of view the one of the best expressions of Petite Arvine. The straw yellow colour .Bouquet is rich, citrus, grapefruit, mountain herbs, honey. Mouthfeel is very pleasant, equilibrated, harmonic, soft, wrapping, this is not Petite Arvine just sapid and mineral, I would like to say that some expressions are such ones. The wine is rich, structured.
The wine grapes are cultivated at Rovettaz vineyard, which is the oldest vineyard of company, situated at the level 550 m above sea level, strong pendent, expressed at the South, climate is especially dry and ventilated. The soil is sandy clayey . The fermentation occurred in stainless steel vats at the temperature controlled. The ageing 8 months 70% in steel vats, 30% in oak barrique .
Here is the next degustation of wines from Valley d’Aosta. Fumin, the line of classic wines, Grosjean, 2016. The other fantastic wine variety in Valley d’Aosta. It is a difficult to work, shoots of this variety are broken down easily. But the result is fantastic.
The deep ruby red colour . Il aroma offers hints of blackberry, spices, tobacco, herbs, underbrush. Really full bouquet. Very nice equilibrium between the acidity and tannins, the wine is soft, harmonious, persistent.
Fumin, Vigne Rovettaz 2016. Historical vineyard of company, planted in 2003, pendent. The soil sandy-loam.Deep red ruby colour. Vinification in stainless steel, without added selected yeats, maceration on the skins during 30-40 days. Aroma fruity and spicy. The wine is dry, soft, with just intagrated tannins.
The vine Prëmeta, the official name of the variety is Priè Rouge. One of particular autochthonous varieties . Wine created from Prëmeta is very unusual. The expression of bouquet and mouthfeel is a unique, inconsolable. The any new wine tasting gives me a new impression.
The first time I have tasted il Neblù, Spumante Method Champenoise of Les Crétes. Constantino Charrère was one of the first, who considered Priè Rouge one of very interesting and have started the cultivation in 1972. He has gotten an idea to create Spumante, and in cooperation with the Institute Agricole Régionale he has created Spumante really particular. That is how Neblù was born, Spumante which I like so much.
Yes, Neblù is the other synonymous of Prié Rouge. The other producer who cultivate la Prëmeta is Didier Gerbelle, the other enthusiast wine maker, who produce wines from rare wine grapes ( Don’t forget either way Michel Valet from Feudo di San Maurizio).
Despite the fact that Priè Rouge, Neblù and Prëmeta are synonymous used for this vine grape, in reality Prëmeta is nibbling of Prié , together with Mayolet, as discovered researchers Vouillamoz, Moriondo in 2011, analysing DNA.
But let’s turn to Grosjean and their fabulous wine Prëmeta, Grosjean is the another company which use to work with rare autochthonous varieties. Cultivated at the level 800 above sea level. Maceration on the skins during 8 days. Biological wine.
Color is particular coral red. The aroma is very floral, red hip, ma after some time we could discover also the scents of tobacco. Wine is fresh, fruity, particular taste, rosehip jam, sapid, with nice integrated tannins.
