“The wine does not serve as a drink , but it is also sniffed , observed , tasted , sipped and… discussed “

The company is situated on the hills of municipality Serra de’Conti, just in the heart of zone of cultivation of Verdichio Classico, the piece of the land which is opened at the valley of the river Esino.
For discovering this magnificent place you have to take the longe and crooked ( well, I am not an Italian driver ) white road which shows at first sight the agritouristic structure. The building where the cellar is situated is modern and sober, nearly hidden between Serra de’Conti and Montecarotto. Inside you could discover very modern and elegant degustation hall and fixing the look at the hills and the circumstances vineyards , you could understand that it made a big sense to come here.
The place is unique and characterised by an influence of the sea, sun and wind, rain and the shelter created by mountains, which results in climate with stable temperature and adapted for production of vine grapes.
Poderi Mattioli is a biologic certified farm. After the interesting visit at modern technique cellar, I had a chance to taste some wines of company production , especially Lauro, which really impressed me.
Lauro is born from the selection of grapes cultivated at the vineyard Mogliette, Serra de’ Conti . The vineyard planted on the 1 ha of argill soil at the altitude cca 300 above sea level at 1971. I have tasted 2016 year production, the wine which I liked a lot. Colour pale yellow with gold reflections. Aroma of peach, broom, fruits, beeswax with slight notes of petroleum. Fresh wine, sapid, but smooth and wrapping, persistent with bitter aftertaste.
Ylice comes from the production in 2,5 ha large vineyard La Spina, situated at the 300 m above sea level, where the soil is sandy. I had an occasion to taste and compare years 2018 and 2017. The 2017 year offers more rich, more evaluated aroma sensations, with notes of ananas, exotic fruits, honey, with citrus flavour, more bitter, but at palate 2018 year is more pleasant, the wine is more fruity, graceful, equilibrate and elegant.
Spumante Metodo Classico, Dosagio zero, 2014 , is born at the vineyard Grecale, cca 3 ha of sandy clay soil . Cuvée of Verdichio 85% and Chardonnay 15%. This is spumante of my style, frank, straight, and enough mineral, I’d say the sparkling wine which expresses the typicality of territory.
I would like to thank the owners of Azienda “Poderi Mattioli “ for the giving me kindly a possibility to visit cellar and to taste those so interesting wines.
