Dietro ogni bottiglia di vino c’e una storia del produttore di vino

Finocchi Viticoltori

“Water divide people. Wine unit them.”

Libero Bovio

At this time I would like to tell you the story of about my visit of the winery Finocchi Viticoltori at Staffolo city, the area nominated “Colle di Verdicchio “

The stimulation of my visit was in this case not only my never ending passion for possibility to taste all the best Verdicchio wines at a zone to compare the differences thanks to the diversity of territory where they have born, to the influence of microclimate and different modes of working, determined by each particular producer, but also and might be mostly by my wish to taste the wine from Incroccio Bruni 54- Crossing of Bruni 54.

There are only several companies which cultivated this crossing and I have an impression that any winery from Marche which cultivates Crossing Bruni 54 , cooperates with the famous oenologiest Giancarlo Soverchio from Staffolo. To tell you the truth I have been always following the recommendations of my favourite Ian D’Agata from his book Native wine grapes of Italy which has the permanent place on my work desk.

The Crossing Bruni 54 was created in 1936 by ampelograph as crossing between Sauvignon Blanc and Verdicchio ( 54 means the number of trials to obtain such a crossing ) Idea was to create the source of white aromatic, fresh and excellent wine ).

Walking between vineyards and olive trees , I have discovered the other fascinating place. I will never be tired from walking among  vineyards, admiring the hills and valleys of Marche and taking many photos . Arriving at the place I have discovered a new degustation hall which is constructed just beside the hill circled  by vineyards. The story of farm is dated back to 1905 , when Marino Finocchi started to cultivate the vines on the land of city Staffolo. Just on the district Salmagina is constructed a new and modern wine cellar with the first level the degustation hall and large terrace which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the vineyards and of the surrounding marvellous scenery. On the underground there is situated the technical winery for all different and necessary phases of working of grapes.

Maurizio Finocchi gently gave me the possibility to visit a marvellous wine cellar and surrounding vineyards. After that we have started degustation and at first we have tasted the famous Incrocio Bruni, Marche Igt, which I found very aromatic and this immediately reminded me one of its parents in crossing, Sauvignon Blanc. The colour is pale yellow with green reflections and aroma offers notes of citrus, orange and grapefruit. The wine is bold, fresh and sapid, with a pleasant acidity and pleasant bitter aftertaste, typical for Verdicchio.

I would like to say that this vine grape has a potential…

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico,2019. We could say basic wine, nevertheless is sapid, mineral, fresh, persistent, in summary typical one of  Verdicchio.

Vivolo, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore. Done from the manually selected grapes,  must of the first run, followed by refinement on lees of fermentation. Aroma of white flowers, acacia and hawthorn with the delicate  spicy scents . The wine is sapid and equlibrated.

Il Pojo, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico Superiore, 2016 and 2017. Wine created from manually selected grapes from the old vineyard, colour of this wine is pale yellow with green reflections. Aroma very floral, with scents of acacia, broom, camomile, with typical bitter aftertaste. Year 2017 rest in the mouth more fresh, more floral, more jolly and pleasant.

Il Fiore, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva DOC, 2013. Colour of this fascinating wine is pale yellow with the gold reflections. Aroma of brioche and almond. Mouthfeel smooth, equilibrated and persistent.

Il Filellu, Rosso Piceno DOC, created from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes. Ruby colour. Aroma of forests fruits, plum with the spicy scents. Smooth wine with well integrated tannins and very pleasant acidity.

Il Giove, Marche Igt Sangiovese, 2012. Ruby colour, on the palate expressions of fruits forest underbrush, blackberries and blackcurrant with delicate spicy scents. Palate is fruity and smooth.

I would like to thank Signor Maurizio Finocchi for giving me a possibility to visit the farm and to taste those excellent wines.
